A daring experiment, that's how Night can certainly be called at first sight. The pianist Simone Dinnerstein and folk singer Tift Merritt, who grew up in the classical world, took on the challenge of bringing their styles together. A challenge for which the duo succeeded with verve. Night is a wonderful album by two formidable musicians, who were willing to immerse themselves in a completely different
… field. It results in fourteen pure and sincere songs, with some old well-known songs in a new original guise. Billie Holidays Don't Explain, for example, is presented in an original way and Johnny Nash's I Can See Clearly Now is present on the impressive track list. Particularly beautiful are the originally classical songs Night And Dreams (Schubert) and Prelude In B Minor From The Clavier Büchlein (Bach). The chemistry between the ladies is sublime and musical arrangements on the album are equally impressive. Night is a collaboration that is crying out for a sequel. (BvdV)more
