At the end of the seventies hard rock was lost. The big bands of old (Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath) were more dead than alive. Fortunately, young bands like Motörhead, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest knocked hard on the door. The latter group cultivated the image of dangerous guys in leather jackets and metal studs. … thanks to a series of strong albums. Screaming For Vengeance, from 1982, was perhaps the best. Thirty years later, songs like Electric Eye and Riding On The Wind still sound fresh. A strong asset is of course the voice of Rob Halford, who has much more to offer than his well-known icy scream. Priest's songs were full of melody anyway. By playing those melodies at lightning speed, Priest laid a blueprint for the successful groups after them such as Metallica and Slayer. Quite rightly, therefore, that this classic hard rock album is polished up once more. (PdK)more
