Money is an important motive in pop music, with rappers often taking the lead. Jeremiah Jae's album title Raw Money Raps therefore sounds pretty corny. Fortunately, Jae is anything but predictable. He raps about 'beats' that even the most adventurous hip-hop fanatic will not count as his favorite genre. The American's music has more in common with ambient and electronica artists than with, for
… example, Dr. Dre. In his eyes hip-hop is an experimental genre and he will do everything he can to develop new ground. He succeeds with verve on his debut. The gloomy sounds are pasted together in such a fragmentary way that it seems as if Jae himself has been busy with scissors, tape and cassettes full of old soundtracks. He does not give much guidance to the listener, there are too few moments that are easy to handle. This may be a mistake, because it only offers people with an avant-garde taste the chance to get to know him. He will not earn much money with this, although Jeremiah Jae certainly adds something to contemporary pop music. (JE)more
