Wolfroy Goes To Town, the tenth album Will Oldham releases under the name Bonnie Prince Billy, contains ten new songs that stand out for their minimal arrangements. Long they are too, most songs clock in the direction of five minutes. The people who prefer to hear Will Oldham as the hushed, contemplative troubadour get their money's worth with this album. In contrast to the striking pink cover, the
… songs refuse to impose themselves on the listener. The songs flow seamlessly into each other; at the same pace with Oldham's sparse guitar playing as a constant factor. Yet there is still plenty of beauty to discover. Like the voice of singer Angel Olsen, who puts a blush on the cheeks of these pale songs. The most successful result is Quail And Dumplings where the drums finally give this introverted album some pepper in the ass. (PdK)more
