In the nineties, New York's The Rapture created an unforgettable dance number, the neo-punk funk classic House Of Jealous Lovers. With the album Echoes (2003) from which this single originated, they practically set in motion the eighties post-punk revival. Since the second album Pieces Of The People We Love from 2006, the group has not been heard much, apart from the strongly dance-oriented song No
… Sex For Ben which was used for Grand Theft Auto IV. On In The Grace Of Your Love you can hear that The Rapture certainly did not lack inspiration. It may even be their strongest album. That is because the group, which has been reduced to a trio, no longer audibly harks back to the eighties, but manages to combine dance with fierce guitar work and slightly psychedelic, melodic pop in an organic way. Especially the vocals of singer / guitarist Luke Jenner have come to play a bigger role in which he no longer cries like Robert Smih but has found his own voice. The Rapture still proves to be an essential band within the New York music scene on In The Grace Of Your Love. (MR)more
