Sunny indie pop from California. Apparently that is also successful in the Netherlands, because Pumped Up Kicks, the first single from Foster The People, immediately appeared in the top 40. And rightly so: it is a song that keeps ringing in your head thanks to the buzzing electronics and especially because of the striking bass line. According to Mark Foster, the frontman of the group, the song is
… about an outsider who wants to get revenge, but because of the sunny music that song could just as well have been about a bike ride in the California sun. The group plays a friendly mix of indie pop with some gadgets of electronics. Nowhere is it dangerous, but Mark Foster turns out to be a master at writing uplifting choruses. Such a group that would do well at 3FM and Pinkpop. With a big label (Sony) behind him, Foster The People's breakthrough seems only a matter of time. (PdK)more
