Tom Vek knows his classics. When the compact disc was introduced in the 1980s, it was not uncommon to explain in the accompanying booklet how this new medium had come about. The English producer doesn't go that far, although it doesn't make much difference. Besides mentioning the designer of the glasses prominently featured on the cover, Philips and a certain Peter Doodson are also mentioned. Philips
… because this company invented the CD and Doodson because he was responsible for the design of the jewel case. Well, as a multi-instrumentalist, Vek hardly needs to include anyone in the album credits, so why not the designer of the CD case? Musically, the Londoner with his synthpop also goes back to the time of the introduction of the CD. Vek knows how to conjure up the most beautiful and warmest sound collages from his sterile electronica, although he is not very talented vocally. Even before the record is over halfway, his voice is monotonous. A professional singer or female singer could have taken this album to a much higher level. Missed opportunity, because this is certainly not a classic. (JE)more
