Nine musicians with roots in nine different countries, who found each other on an Amsterdam houseboat: that is the history of Hotel in a nutshell. The group ignores musical traditions and dips alternately into a hodgepodge of styles, in which South American and Eastern European flavors predominate. The great thing about Hotel is the unbridled pleasure that the group radiates. You can still hear the
… loose origins of the company (the band members jammed together on monthly summer evenings at the beach). The party music rolls in all directions and the group is therefore just as suitable for Lowlands as for a neighborhood fair in Amsterdam-Noord. One of the nicest songs in the Texmex-like Babel, sung in an unintelligible gibberish. Until the chorus, because then the lyrics are: "I want to talk to you but I can't hear you." Is that bad? No! Because if you don't understand each other, you can always enjoy dancing to The Island Sessions by Hotel, one of Holland's best world music promises. (PdK)more
