Nice rattle, that seems to be the motto of The Soft Pack. The four gentlemen from California make uncomplicated rock with a lot of emphasis on melody. They were previously active under the name The Muslims and it should be no mystery that this elicited more reactions than their music. The Soft Pack is a name that will not offend anyone and it is a bit like that with their music. Don't expect quirky
… studio tricks or extreme inventions from The Soft Pack, because you will be disappointed. In half an hour ten pleasant little things come by that are very reminiscent of The Modern Lovers and the earlier work of REM The Soft Pack sounds completely unpretentious and that is always a plus in a world of egos. Only criticism could be that The Soft Pack is too colorless. Only Matty McLoughlin's guitar wants to screech every now and then and that ensures that the record does not become too boring. The focus is, while rattling and rippling, on the songs and more bands should do that. (JE)more
