Although his self-titled debut from 2000 was still overlooked, with I Am A Bird Now the androgynous singer broke through with his band The Johnsons five years later. … Antony is increasingly difficult to ignore. Hegarty's long-awaited third album The Crying Light is the perfect vehicle to bring his music to a wide audience for good. It is a beautifully quiet album, sparingly but accurately arranged with piano and strings, so that all the attention is focused on Antony's modest vocals. The emotional charge, which on its predecessor I Am A Bird Now occasionally became quite uncomfortable for some, this time is more hidden under the surface but is still definitely present. (MS)more
