Would we have noticed Little Joy's unnamed debut if The Strokes drummer hadn't been in it? Probably not. Fortunately, Fabrizio Moretti is involved in this project, because this picture is too much fun to pass unnoticed. In Rodrigo Amarante (Los Hermanos) he has found a singer who sounds just as nasal and bored as Julian Casablanca from The Strokes. He is also assisted by Binki Shapiro on vocals,
… guitar and Glockenspiel. All young, handsome and hip people, according to the group photo in the booklet. The production has been kept in a pleasant way, as we have come to expect from the New York scene. Yet there are also differences. Little Joy's songs sound more playful, dreamier and smaller. Less urgent, if you prefer. But in all its unpretentiousness, this side project can certainly be called successful. (MS)more
