Many people know Edward Reekers without knowing it. After all, he lent his voice to many advertisements, jingle and Dutch dubbed film. Music lovers know him mainly as the lead singer of the symphonic rock group Kayak, with which he made the Nederpop classic Ruthless Queen (1979). Child Of The Water is his first solo album. A record that was audibly made with a lot of love by himself and benevolent
… colleagues such as drummer Martijn Bosman (Gotcha !, Kane) and singer Syb van der Ploeg (De Kast). Kayak colleague Pim Koopman helped with arranging, among other things. Top kayak Ton Scherpenzeel is missing, but for fans of the current work of this band (Coming Up For Air, Nostradamus) Child Of The Water is definitely recommended. This album contains the same kind of neatly arranged, melodic and accessible prog with a leading role for the warm voice of Reekers. He is not the man to lash out in a heartbreaking way and musically everything remains neatly in line. But this seems to be a conscious choice, what you as a listener can embrace or not. (MR)more
