Laptop musician Erik Levander was shocked when his hard drive crashed, with his entire new album on it. Thanks to donations from fans and friends, he was able to hire a company to repair the hard disc. That turned out to be in vain, after which there was no other option than to re-record the whole thing. He spent the money on artwork and mastering with the consent of the donors. All the effort was
… not in vain. Kondens - which will be released by Rumraket, Efterklang's label - is a special record, on which glitch, ambient, idm and noise form an exciting alliance. Levander plays many 'normal' instruments (guitar, clarinet, piano, harmonium), which he then extends, creating new sounds. He also indulges himself with radios, a saw and tape recorders. All this has resulted in atmospheric soundscapes, with the occasional stray melody patch, in which song structures are completely missing. While many records in the genre ripple on, Levander plays with dynamics to your heart's content and regularly works towards a climax, only to slow down. (MS)more
