With his first two albums, Teitur Lassen managed to build a solid reputation as a singer / songwriter. Something he now seems to be aware of on this album. “I always had a voice and now I am a singer”, he says in the opening song The Singer. Despite the doubts he sometimes expresses in his lyrics, Teitur sounds mostly self-assured in his music. The Singer has become a varied album. Teitur easily
… taps into a variety of emotions, which he provides with a like-minded musical palette. Catherine The Waitress' cheerful britpop-with-marimba-and-trumpets, for example, follows the gloomy We Still Drink The Same Water. Legendary Afterparty is a tribute to blues musician Chris Whitley, who died young. Striking about The Singer are the beautiful arrangements that were orchestrated by Trondur Bogason, who, like Teitur, comes from the Faroe Islands. In short, Teitur delivers a surprisingly strong album with The Singer. (PdK)more
