Listening to Seperated By The Sea, the debut of British singer / songwriter Findlay Brown, all kinds of associations come to mind. Crosby Stills & Nash, Simon & Garfunkel, Nick Drake and even the British folk band America (Down Among The Dead Man) are the apparent influences of this young singer. … explains the album title. Brown is also ambitious, as he compares in the first line of his biography to none other than Bob Dylan and Paul Simon. Brown is not (yet) as unique and recognizable as these greats. The subtle and balanced production of Simon Lord (Simian) does not hide the fact that Findlay Brown is mainly looking for his own voice on his debut album. As was the case with the first records by Dylan and Simon. If we give Findlay Brown some more time, he could end up in that list. (MS)more
