The weblogging music community on the internet had discovered her before: Imogen Heap. Not thanks to her first CD I Megaphone (1998) or the collaboration with producer Guy Sigsworth in Frou Frou, but because of her contribution to various soundtracks. Especially the song Hide And Seek, which could be heard in the TV series The OC, made people curious about this English singer with the special name.
It is an impressive a cappella song, in which only Heaps' special voice (somewhat reminiscent of Sarah McLachlan) with various effects can be heard over it. Hide And Seek is also featured on Speak For Yourself, Heaps' second fully self-produced CD. It's an electronic album - but not a dance! -, with some 'real' drums, bass or a guitar every now and then. Sometimes the songs have a somewhat experimental character, but mostly they are real pop songs, in which Imogen Heap's voice steals the show, with the many bows, slashes and distortions. (IV)more
