The glory days of the American industrial metal band Fear Factory were in the mid-nineties with successful albums such as Demanufacture (1995) and Obsolete (1998). Anno 2005, Fear Factory seems to have lost a large part of its audience and the album Transgression shows perseverance. Despite the fact that Fear Factory is still a big name in the metal world, the albums that preceded this were nowhere
… near the level of the aforementioned records. The main problem is that the concept - icy guitar riffs, sickly tight drums and Burton C. Bell's roaring buoy - has gradually developed. At Transgression Bell tries with varying degrees of success once again to put down real vocals. The low point was that concerning the cringe-worthy 'ballad' Echo Of My Scream. Former bassist and current guitarist Christian Olde Wolbers also lacks the ingenuity to create original guitar riffs. Transgression doesn't really want to get going and ironically has a small revival on U2's I Will Follow but then sinks back into mediocrity. (RPK)more
