The Bravery was founded in New York around 2003. The retro hype of post-punk bands like Joy Division, New Order and Gang Of Four started around that time. New York bands such as Interpol and The Strokes, as well as British bands such as Franz Ferdinand and Bloc Party, breathed new life into the movement. The Bravery sounds quite British, but also partly taps from the garage rock barrel. The songs
… are sharp, at times very catchy and energetic. Highlights include Give In, An Honest Mistake, and Fearless. The fresh vocals that we know of Alex Kapranos (Franz Ferdinand) are sometimes exactly copied by singer Sam Endicott, complete with a thick British accent. The question is therefore whether The Bravery can be counted to the same caliber as the successful British crop. Not all of the eleven songs are good enough to compete. And that is important because this band does not have to rely on originality. (JdD)more
