Without ever having scored a real hit in our country, the British trio Placebo is one of the most popular alternative rock bands of the moment. The main band member is singer Brian Molko with his striking, sometimes whining voice and his equally special, androgynous appearance. With Placebo he has made three albums so far, of which Black Market Music from 2000 is the best known. Their music can best
… be described as a mixture of modern Britpop with 'old-fashioned' styles such as punk, glam rock and new wave. The fourth album Sleeping With Ghosts has been eagerly awaited for a while, especially when it was announced shortly before its release that the band would be one of the headliners of Pinkpop 2003. At first hearing Sleeping With Ghosts seems to continue where Black Market Music left off. The difference with the predecessors is mainly in Molko's lyrics (more mature and mature) and the daring production of Jim Abbiss, who previously collaborated with dance acts Unkle, Money Mark and DJ Shadow. Conclusion: with the excellent Sleeping With Ghosts, Placebo proves once again that they belong to the absolute top of alternative rock.
