Sometimes CDs appear that are difficult to compare and which have a unique sound. (2000) by the English company Broadcast was such a CD. The Birmingham foursome mixed strange sound collages, psychedelic 60s influences and electronics into one whole that served as the basis for the vocals of singer Trish Keenan, who managed to create a dreamy and mysterious atmosphere with her clear, soft voice. Haha
… Sound is the group's second album, which has since been reduced to a trio. And once again they have managed to make a wonderful album, which builds on the sound of The Noise Made By People but still shows enough news. Some of the songs sound quite fierce, like Pendulum, with propelling drums and synthesizers, or Man Is Not A Bird with a great drum part. Elsewhere it sounds warm, soft and sweet again, with a rich and detailed production full of weird sound layers that rustle, bubbling and messing around but nowhere to distract from Keenan's vocals. Haha Sound is a beautiful record and Broadcast a unique band, that much is clear. (IV)more
