Guitarist Jeff Beck has always been a bit of an outsider, partly because great commercial success failed to materialize, but also because his musical paths sometimes turned out to be unfathomable. Beck effortlessly alternated metal with fusion and he even surprised the listeners of his album You Had It Coming (2001) with a good dose of electronics and beats. Apparently that last experiment went well
… because this new album was mostly recorded in the same style. Beck once again shows to be a masterful slide guitarist and plays on this album again with all kinds of electronics, samples, beats and effects. Beck's urge to innovate goes hand in hand with familiar style elements from blues, funk, surf or hip-hop. Whatever Jeff Beck does, as soon as he touches his guitar, it becomes unmistakably his music. And on the album Jeff that is again very good music. (RWK)more
