The Belgian duo Vive La Fête consists of producer Danny Mommens and his girlfriend singer Els Pynoo. Although Mommens is also the bass player in dEUS, with which he makes highly acclaimed alternative pop music, the music of Vive La Fête is completely different: deliberately kitsch, unpretentious electro and synth doll, which has no other goal than to entertain. Mommens and Pynoo met in 1997 and
… soon started recording songs at home that were initially only released on small independent labels, resulting in the 1998 Paris EP. Their music, inspired by the duo Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin, with lots of synthesizers, 80s influences and Pynoo's supercooled French-language vocals, combined with an 'over the top' presentation on stage, quickly became a success. Vive La Fête is particularly popular in the fashion designer circuit and regularly performs at fashion shows, which travel all over the world. Nuit Blanche contains the same successful elements as its predecessors Attaque Surprise (2000) and Republique Goedkoop (2001) and still has the same eighties sound. It doesn't really amount to much, but this simplicity is infectious. (IV)more
