The instruments of the Norwegian band Jaga Jazzist consist of no less than trumpets, a trombone, an electric guitar, a bass, a tuba, two bass clarinets, a drum kit, a Fender Rhodes piano and a vibraphone. Together this ten-piece formation makes a cross between instrumental jazz, electronica and post-rock. The individual members have contributed to almost every musical Norwegian expression in recent
… years. From dance (Royksopp), nu-jazz (Bugge Wesseltoft, Bobby Hughes Experience), rock (Motorpsycho) to experimental electronics (Biosphere). Their debut CD A Livingroom Hush was so successful in Scandinavia that it earned them a well-deserved contract with Ninja Tune. In the stable of that label they are set up between Amon Tobin and Cinematic Orchestra. The Stix does not consist of bite-sized chunks, but is an extremely brilliant CD, intended for those who seek adventure in music. (AD)more
