Anyone who listens to A1 People for the first time thinks they are dealing with Germans, their sound resembles a fat version of Kraftwerk so much. The name A1 therefore refers to Autobahn, the first big hit of these German synthesizer pioneers. However, A1 People hails from Greenwich and uses the serious pioneers of electro itself as a source of inspiration, rather than its fashionable derivatives.
This speaks for them. The Yellow Album therefore does not have room for the usual cornyness that dominates the electroclash scene, but more of a serious continuation of the work of godfathers like the aforementioned Kraftwerk, Afrika Bambaata and Gary Numan. On Casio Rock, even the Casio's bleeping beatbox, which played a major role in the development of this genre, is taken back from the attic. Where a large part of today's electro lingers in a flat imitation of the eighties, A1 People really let this sound grow. (AD)more
