The British band Toploader named itself after an expertly rolled joint. Yet there is little woolly to discover about the thorough mix of classic rock, soul and Britpop of this sympathetic five piece. In 2001 they scored a big hit with the catchy single Dancing In The Moonlight, after which the band was allowed to perform at almost all major festivals in England. … was given a tour as support act for their hero Paul Weller, the 'godfather' of Britpop. Magic Hotel is the successor to the successful debut Onka's Big Moka and shows the now familiar, friendly radio pop. Toploader once again shows itself on this album as a solid song machine that seldom falters but unfortunately delivers just as few highs as lows. Let's just say a good mid-engine. (MS)more
