With their 1988 album Suffer, the punk rock band Bad Religion bridged the gap between old hard punk and melodic rock and thus formed the basis of modern punk rock. She was followed by NOFX, Pennywise and The Offspring, among others. The group of singer Greg Graffin and guitarist Brett Gurewitz delivered a few more albums after Suffer, but in 1994 Gurewitz left to focus his attention fully on their
… own Epitaph label. Bad Religion then signed with major label Sony to release Stranger Than Fiction there, the last one with Gurewitz for the time being and the biggest success to date. With the three subsequent albums Bad Religion could not match this success. Now that Gurewitz has returned to Bad Religion (and Bad Religion has returned to Epitaph) everything is right again. With The Process Of Belief, Bad Religion returns in part to the faster and harder work in the Suffer era, but also to the more complex Stranger Than Fiction. That with Gurewitz the magic is back, is evident from the golden melodies, the beautiful background harmonies, the ingenious song structures, the intelligent lyrics and the legendary punk rock vocals of Graffin.
