Of all the bands from the stoner rock / metal scene the American Karma To Burn is perhaps one of the most original. On their debut album Karma To Burn the regular line-up of vocals, guitar, bass and drums is good for a steaming pot of stoner rock, but the music is still not really original. After the singer has been put aside, the three remaining core members appear to be able to lose their egg much
… better. As a result their second, and now third album Almost Heathen, is exclusively instrumental. Almost Heathen in particular is of exceptional quality. The ten songs are packed with simple yet brilliantly executed precision riffs that are reminiscent of the best of Mötorhead, Kyuss and AC / DC. The instrumental power of KarmaTo Burn is great enough to make up for the lack of a singer. In fact: there is no point on the record where vocals would be appropriate. By the way, only the music is really relevant for Karma To Burn: the songs have randomly chosen number combinations as title. That music is more than good. (RWK)more
