In the 1980s, British indie band James (founded 1982) was launched as 'the new '. These seven have never become so popular. They did score a big hit with Sit Down in 1992 and made ten albums, two of which were experimental records with . James' career also had some lows: the departure of guitarist Gott and manager Martine in 1995. On Pleased To Meet You it is not clear that the band has been around

Pleased To Meet You contains a number of strong songs such as the potential hit Space (with melancholic synthesizer-hook), Falling Down (hip through the eighties sound), the fragile title track Pleased To Meet You, the marching tempo Fine and the moving Alaskan Pipeline. Apart from a miss (the like Give It Away), Pleased To Meet You is a more than beautiful album that needs to grow for a while but then feels good. (BP)more
