An anniversary: The Border is the 75th studio album by the indestructible American country artist Willie Nelson. Although by now a slight grit has descended on his vocal cords, this could also have been (say) the 25th or 50th album by this spry 90sman. The Border contains a dozen beautifully arranged and often melancholy country-rock songs, including the
Rodney Crowell-written topical title track
… about the struggles and conscientiousness of a customs officer on the Mexican-American border. In addition, the still-relevant Nelson co-wrote four songs. Of course, some of his 75 albums are interchangeable, but one wonders if there is a single lesser one among them. (MR)more
