Although Lindi Ortega has lived in Nashville since 2011, the Canadian singer remains a bit of an outsider in the country world. Not only because she is not American, but also because her music has little to do with the often smooth country pop that comes from the studios in her hometown. This is also evident on Faded Gloryville, Ortega's fourth album in five years. In the eleven songs that were
… recorded in Nashville and Muscle Shoals with no fewer than four different producers, influences of soul, (rhythm &) blues and rockabilly can be heard. Connecting element between all this is Ortega's distinctive voice, which has a pleasant vibrato. Many of the songs are about life at the bottom of society, the Faded Gloryville, where only losers live. But with weed, whiskey and rum there is still some fun to be had there. Various wrong men and broken hearts also pass by. One of the highlights on the fine Faded Gloryville is the Bee Gees cover To Love Somebody, which has been given a substantial soul injection with organ and wind instruments. (IV)more
