It is usually not very cozy with singer / songwriter Eilen Jewell. After the sinners of her official debut (2007) came the tears and the minor mood of successors (2009) and (2011). The name of her fourth album Sundown Over Ghost Town also appeals to the imagination. A ghost town is actually a deserted place where no one wants to live anymore, but in Jewel's own hometown Boise (214,000 inhabitants),
… musicians were more than happy to come by to make music with her. With a regular accompaniment group and a handful of guests, Jewell himself recorded this Americana album in a live setting. Delicate blues, country and rock and roll are featured on this penetrating record. And also a lot of ghosts from the past. Jewell processes her childhood in songs like Worried Mind and My Hometown. And although the memories often have a sad slant, Jewell often still manages to find a bright spot somewhere. Fortunately. (JE)more
