The Dutch bassist, composer and arranger Joris Teepe has been pursuing an impressive career since moving to New York in 1992. He has played with Slide Hampton, Deborah Brown, Ack van Rooyen, Hans and Candy Dulfer and has made two solo CDs ("Pay as you earn" and "Bottom line") with musicians such as Tom Harrell, Cyrus Chestnut and Don Braden. On his third solo CD, Teepe does not put himself too emphatically in the foreground and gives Brecker, saxophonist Chris Potter and pianists Kevin Hays and James Williams plenty of space. He is more notable for his strong compositions (including the swinging title piece, "Porto Allegre" and the Brazilian "more
