Vibraphonist Gary Burton mainly plays standards / jazz classics on this CD. The CD opens with the tastefully and beautifully performed September Song and ends with Horace Silver's Ecaroh. Nice and swinging is Tossed Sallads And Scrambled Eggs, the music of the TV series Frasier. Particularly in the repertoire are Depk by Duke Ellington / Billy Strayhorn and Japanese Waltz by Chick Corea. There are
… still beautiful versions of Tenderly, For All We Know and Born To Be Blue. The CD Departure sounds very relaxed and can be compared to the style of George Shearing, to whom Burton owes a lot of credit. The accompanists are top jazz musicians and they are also very carefully chosen: Fred Hersch (piano), John Patitucci (bass), Peter Erskine (drums) and John Scofield (guitar). A beautiful and melodic jazz CD!more
