A contemporary guitarist who has made it all the way in modern jazz today is Mike Stern. He plays heavy jazz influenced by funk and soul, with an emphasis on the solos on his electric guitar. On Between The Lines he was accompanied by tenor saxophonist Bob Malach, bassist Jeff Andrews, keyboardist Jim Beard and drummer Dave Weckl.
