Netsayi is a woman of two cultures. Her parents fled the British colony of Southern Rhodesia (present-day Zimbabwe) to London, where Netsayi was born in 1973. After Zimbabwe gained independence in 1980, the family returned. Today, however, London is Netsayi's home again. Although she studied Visual Arts and worked on film and television productions for several years, her heart has been in music
… since childhood. From 2001, the Anglo-Zimbabwean songwriter chose the music and started performing. Successfully. Her music is a clever combination of African pop, jazz, soul and folk music. Her debut album is called Chimurenga Soul. Chimurenga means freedom struggle. With a warm and powerful voice Netsayi sings in both English and Shona traditional and own songs that include missing a loved one, homesickness for the fatherland, pride in your roots, the dual nature of war and nature. A beautiful debut album with varied music. (SvdP)more
