Bossa Muffin is the promising debut album by Brazilian singer Flavia Coelho, who has lived in Paris since 2006. Together with her regular band members Bika Bika Pierre (from Cameroon), Victor Vagh (also producer), guitarist Sebastien Lunghi and guest musicians, Coelho created a varied mix of Brazilian samba, bossa nova and forró with a touch of Jamaican raggamuffin, a subgenre of reggae and dancehall
… . Coelho has a warm singing voice and she is rhythmically and verbally very strong: the (mostly) Portuguese words flow out of her mouth at a rapid pace. She also raps in heavy songs such as Canta Comigo and Liberdade. The album full of sunny, lively and swinging music finds some resting points in the reflective songs A Foto and Agnes. The album ends with a powerful expression of the revolutionary values of Freedom, Equality and Brotherhood for the whole world. A cosmopolitan message from a musical cosmopolitan. (SvdP)more
