Together with Hal David, wrote a series of great hits in the 1960s. Songs like Walk On By and The Look Of Love have been performed hundreds of times. Reason enough for the English television channel BBC to dedicate a full-length program to Bacharach. Singers like , and perform his best-known songs. So on this interesting DVD we see American classics through the eyes of (young) British artists.
Bacharach is also present. It is wonderful to hear the eighties sing his songs. The interviews with Michael Grade are also very entertaining. Together they take the time to bring out the stories behind the music. The songs are also performed with a lot of calm and patience. The singers and orchestra are not overly frisky. There is little spectacle, there is only music. That's a bold approach, as the program is a bit stiff at times. It never gets boring, but that is not possible with such beautiful music. (JE)more
