Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (1525-1594) was one of the most important musicians of the sixteenth century. His composition style was used as an example by many. Until this time, the 'Palestrina style' (counterpoint) is a rich source of inspiration. In May 1994, the Escolonia de Montserrat, conducted by Dom Ireneu Segarra, gave a concert of works by Palestrina in which the Virgin Mary was central.
