A CD with beautiful music by Cassidy that takes listeners to the old stories and legends of Irish literature based partly on truth and partly on fiction. Lir is one of the 'Tuatha de Danann' kings who marries her sister after the death of his wife. However, she is jealous of Lir's children from his first marriage and transforms the four children into swans for 900 years until the day the spell will
… be broken. The story tells about their experiences and feelings. Eventually the swans become children again thanks to a follower of St. Patrick. The story also symbolically refers to the arrival of St. Patrick himself and the rise of Christianity. The work will be performed by soprano Mary Clarke, alto Linda Lee, tenor Emanuel Lawlor, bass Nigel Williams, Tallis Chamber Choir and The London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Philip Simms. Patrick Cassidy himself plays the Irish harp. (LW) _more
