Almost 20 years ago a CD like , with chamber music by Johann Gottlieb Goldberg. Unfortunately for him, he is still known almost exclusively because the Goldberg Variations are named after him. Which is a shame, because his music is very rewarding. In the trio sonatas on this CD we hear beautiful and whimsical melodic lines. There is a lot to experience in terms of counterpoint and chromaticism. In
… short, Johann Goldberg produces very adventurous and attractive baroque music, which is also performed very fervently here. Although there is as yet no evidence that Goldberg was taught by the great Bach (or his son Wilhelm Friedemann), there is much to be heard here that is reminiscent of Bach.
