Pianist Marcel Worms, who has previously programmed CDs around Mondrian and Van Gogh, this time responds to the exhibition devoted to Picasso in the Kunsthal in Rotterdam. The CD includes music from ballet productions for which Picasso provided the sets (Stravinsky, Milhaud, Satie, De Falla, Granados). The program also includes music inspired by Picasso's work, such as "Guernica" by Paul Dessau.
The CD opens with the unfinished fugue from "Die Kunst der Fuge" by Bach, because of the Cubists' interest in Bach's music. You can also listen to music that focuses on two great loves of Picasso: the circus and the bullfight. The songs on the CD are sung by mezzo-soprano Ilona Stokvis. (HJ) _more
