'Dutch pride', Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, has not lacked attention in recent years, especially thanks to the enormous efforts of Harry van der Kamp and his Gesualdo Consort. He not only personally provided six CD boxes with the complete vocal work, but also played a role in the sequel, to also release the complete keyboard work. As far as he was already aware of this, the French harpsichordist
… Sébastien Wonner fortunately did not let himself be stopped from taking care of this CD. Here he plays a copy of a Flemish harpsichord from 1612 by the famous Ruckers family of builders. Wonners has previously collaborated with ensembles such as Les Witches and Doulce mémoire, but this is his first solo CD. Hopefully he will continue with that, because his playing sounds wonderful here. He plays Sweelinck's music gracefully and with flair. The selection is also interesting: we almost only hear variations, both on folk songs, ecclesiastical hymns and on popular melodies. Thus we hear not only Wonner's virtuosity, but also Sweelinck's great versatility. (TC)more
