Mozart's energetic and youthful violin concertos have grown, as it were, against oppression. Mozart had already completed his tours as a child prodigy, but his employer, the Archbishop of Salzburg, was unable to use his experience. The exciting character of this music is beautifully reflected in the performance of "Concerts 3, 4 & 5" in the performance of Augustin Dumay and the Academica Salzburg.
This CD is Dumay's debut as a soloist and conductor. "High-fiber, robustly articulated orchestral playing acts as frame and foil for the imaginative 'richesse' of Dymay's own free and airy spirit," the September Gramophone said. Augustin Dumay became known for, among other things, the CDs he arranged with Maria Joao Pires with chamber music by Mozart, Brahms, Grieg, Franck, Debussy and Ravel. (HJ) _more
