Locatelli (1695-1764; so 1995 is the 300th year of birth) occupies a special place in Dutch music history. After his studies, he traveled from his native Italy to all over Europe as a violin virtuoso. He arrived in Amsterdam in about 1729. This city offers him the advantages of excellent

Locatelli's oeuvre is mainly devoted to the strings. Unlike his contemporaries, he carefully writes out his decorations and cadences. He wanted to link the violin technique to composing. This CD contains a selection from his opus two (flute, bc). opus five (flute, violin, bc), opus six (violin, bc) and opus eight (two violins, bc). A CD was also released with the title: Locatelli and his Italian and Dutch contemporaries.
